Spearmint (Botanical Name: Mentha viridis) shares many of the same properties as Peppermint, only milder. Some of the most important benefits of Spearmint oil are: it can have a calming effect when used for insomnia or massages and can loosen congestion by opening airways for easier breathing; it can be used as a gentle tonic to ease upset stomachs. Spearmint is popular during pregnancy to prevent morning sickness, nausea, and vomiting, but can also be used by others suffering from such gastrointestinal issues as excess flatulence, cramping, or bloating. The most common association of spearmint is with fresh breath, but its role in mouthwashes and toothpastes are not solely to keep your breath smelling good. Spearmint has a natural antibacterial and antimicrobial nature of menthol and other organic compounds in spearmint can help to protect your mouth and throat from infections, including those that can damage dental and gum health. Directions for use:
- Diffusion: Diffuse 3-5 drops or more in the PURELY™ diffuser.
- Topical: To use neat, apply 1-2 drops to desired area. Be sure to test for sensitivity.
- Steam Inhalation: Add 2-3 drops to a cup of steaming water and inhale.
- Ingestion: When using as a supplement, add 1 drop per 4oz of liquid. Use no more than three times per day.
NOTE: S for sensitivity! Oils with this symbol should be properly diluted and tested in a small place prior to full use. This is especially important for use with all children. Usually denotes a "hot oil". Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun for at least 12 hours after applying citrus oils with this symbol.
