Simply Aroma's essential oil, Deflect, is used to repel harmful biting insects up to five hours. Be sure to test for sensitivity first.
You can apply 1-2 drops of Deflect to desired area and rub in.

You can make an insect repellent spray: mix 6-8 drops or more of Deflect, 2-tablespoons of witch hazel and 4 ounces of water in a glass spray bottle. Spray generously on exposed skin to repel bugs.

Diffusing Deflect is another option: 5-6 drops or more in the Simply Aroma diffuser to protect a small area against bugs outdoors.
