Basil (Botanical name: Ocimum basilicum) essential oil is made from both the leaves and the flowers of the plant for increased aroma and potency. Basil is grown for its use as a fresh herb that comes in many different varieties, with the smell and taste of licorice, lemon, and cinnamon, to name a few. The leaves on basil plants can vary from bright green to greenish-gray to purple. Basil essential oil contains a number of nutritional benefits for which it has long been so popular, including: Vitamin A, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, and Iron. Additionally, Basil has a number of health benefits: it can be ingested, used topically, inhaled, and/or enjoyed in a diffuser for psychological well being. Basil essential oil is great for soothing tight or sore muscles. You can add basil essential oil to your bath water, or put it in a carrier oil, like coconut oil, for a rub after a tough workout or hard day. It also can be used as a breath freshener, insect repellent, and a mood booster.
Directions for use:
- Diffusion: Diffuse 3-5 drops or more in the PURELY™ diffuser.
- Topical: Dilute 1-2 drops with a carrier oil before use. Please see the dilution table.
- Steam inhalation: Add 2-3 drops to a cup of steaming water and inhale.
- Ingestion: When using as a supplement, add 1 drop per 4 ounces of liquid. Use no more than three times per day.
