Carrier oils are so named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. Carrier oils do not contain an aroma, unlike essential oils, though some, such as olive, have a mild distinctive smell. Neither do they evaporate like essential oils, which are more volatile. Each carrier oil offers a different combination of therapeutic properties and characteristics. The choice of carrier oil can depend on the therapeutic benefit being sought. An essential oil is added to carrier oils to impart both a scent and their healing properties.

Carrier oils absorb quickly into the skin and moisturizes well. Some carrier oils mimic the natural oils in our skin, so they're easily absorbed and our skin is not left feeling greasy. While other carrier oils are high in antioxidants and are great for weathered skin in need of deep healing.
